Forklift Competition Tests Skill and Precision
Brentwood, Tenn. (Vocus) December 17, 2008 -- A tradition at OHL (www.ohl.com) for 17 years, the Top Gun Competition (www.ohl.com) offers OHL forklift drivers throughout the U.S. the opportunity to compete with one another to determine who has the most skill, precision, and expertise in the company. This year there were more than 250 participants from 13 states in the logistics competition. OHL congratulates Terrence Alexander, winner of the 2008 Top Gun Competition.
Alexander competed with 17 fellow forklift drivers at the competition finals in Nashville to earn the Top Gun title. The competition consisted of a written test, forklift inspection, and completion of an obstacle course. Contestants were given points based on knowledge, safety, skill and ability.
The final stage of the competition involved maneuvering through a rigorous obstacle course. Drivers completed tasks such as moving a table set with china and champagne glasses and balancing a beam on a small stand. While time was a factor in determining the winner, these difficult tasks primarily tested skill and precision. As the Top Gun champion, Alexander received a leather bomber jacket, a $1,000 cash prize, and the honored title as this year's champion. He works in OHL's McDonough, Ga., location and has been with the company for nine years.
David Claybrooke, director of training at OHL, has been responsible for this competition for the past 10 years. Claybrooke recently retired and handed over responsibility to Steve Zewicky, area manager in Old Hickory, TN, who has been with the company for 30 years.
Sadly, shortly after retiring, David Claybrooke passed away at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. OHL commemorates the 38 years of dedicated service Claybrooke shared with the company. His successes and achievements will not be forgotten.
